Do you ever question what your intuition really is and what is it trying to tell you?

I have been thinking about this concept more and more over the past couple of weeks and was recently asked how I started really listening and why I made some of the choices that I did.

The interesting thing is that while I have experience in listening more to what my authentic self is telling me, I still struggle in trusting what it has to say and letting go of the need to control.

It can be really tough to allow yourself to relax and to trust in something that you can’t see or touch, but when I stop to think back about my life over the past few months, the ability to do so was what made things a lot clearer.

I had no idea where I was headed when I started this journey. I knew I wanted to help people and make a difference in the world. And of course I knew I wanted to feel passion and excitement while I did it.

So I took the first small step in listening to what that was telling me to do. Then I listened some more, and I took another small step.

I never suspected that I was going to begin exploring more intuitive work and energy healing.

But each time I have that feeling inside me to explore something, I simply listen. And I take another small step.

It took me a long time and a lot of work to become more conscious of it, and it still takes practice. I often still have people who I need to snap me back into consciously trusting and getting quiet (and I am forever grateful for those people).

If you can’t trust in yourself and in the Universe, than life is going to be pretty sad. And who knows better about what’s right for you, than you?

I recently wrote a post for Tiny Buddha where I discussed why you shouldn’t wait for others to validate your decisions, because the truth is, no one else knows how to get you to exactly where you need to be. Not your family or your best friend. They don’t know and quite frankly, it’s not their job.

This is an inside job.

So tune in and listen up.

If this is all new to you, here is a simple exercise to test it out: stand straight up and ask yourself a question (I suggest asking yourself an easy one to start with and to help you believe in the power of it). Notice what way your body leans. Leaning forward signifies a strong yes and that you should take the step or that you are moving in the right direction. If your body leans back that’s a sign that it’s not in line with what your intuition wants you to do.

After I gained more experience, I started to notice signs along the way to keep me in line too. Do you ever notice those times in your life that you are faced with obstacle after obstacle and nothing seems to go right? Those are the rumble strips giving you a sign to slow down and change direction.

I remember a couple of year’s back I felt as though my world was crumbling. My dog had just died, my fiance and I split up, and I was under incredible stress at work.

How much more obvious could it have been that I was out of alignment? Thanks Universe!

That was when I committed to changing my life.

It wasn’t an overnight process, and it’s still a work in progress, but at least now I am able to recognize and change course when I need to.

Remember, you are exactly where you are meant to be right now. Signed, The Universe.
